Heitzman Traditional Bakery & Deli has been in the Louisville metro area for 120 years. Back in 1891 Jacob Heitzman started the long history of baking and decorating cakes. In 1924 Charles Heitzman continued the baking tradition and created the famous “Butter Kuchen” and “Strawberry Whip Cream Cake”. Charles’ expertise was decorating specialty, and award winning wedding cakes. i wonder if it is your store that is opening at shelby and eastern pkwy. i saw a bakery with a help wanted sign and i thought i’d apply. i apologize if it is a different bakery going in there, but I remember a Heitzman’s sign. it is my impression that people who work in bakeries typically work in the mornings, and these are the most suitable hours for me at this time. thank you.
when my kids were small we used to stop by meltons on outer Loop and Shepherdsville rd. and get a product made by your bakery. We never see the product anymore ANYWHERE. Was wondering if you all still make your “MOUNTAIN SPICE COOKIES ” and where I can buy them. My girls are now married and mommies and we talk of the special yummy cookies that we used to enjoy when they are little.
If you don’t make them anymore, do you know where i can get a similar recipe?
I writing to you in regards to your location on Valley Station Road.. I was excited when I first saw the sign for the bakery.. I used to work for Walmart and Sam’s as a cake decorator and thought I would stop in.. I was so disapointed in what I saw which was pretty much nothing… I was the only person besides the worker in the store.. The lights in the back were turned off and she was just sitting at a table.. She never greeted me nor spoke a word the entire time I was there… I didn’t see the first cake for sale.. What I did see were a few cookies and loaves of bread.. This appeared to me as a lunch spot more than anything with the coke machine and tables with a small menu for sandwiches.. So dissapointed..
I had a chance many many years ago to work for Heitzman as I was unemployeed at the time and had placed several applications around the area.. They were several days to late as I had already taken another job…
This bakery has the “potential” to be so much more.. I have heard that they can’t seem to keep decorators and actually transport any cake orders from the store on Dixie Highway.. Why is that? There are not very many true bakeries anymore and it’s ashame that you’ve opened this store and in my opinion it’s failed.. I live 2 minutes from the store and drive past it at least twice a day.. I never see anyone in it.. Usually it’s appears closed… I have only been in this store once because there wasn’t a need to go back as I’m sure most everyone else feels as well.. I’m very surprised that it’s even still open.. It has to be losing money left and right.. Again there is so much potential for this bakery… However it would take a “UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT” sign to get it’s second chance.. It needs cake bakers and decorators and cases full of yummy merchandise… it needs a “GRAND” opening with free samples. Instead of a coke machine it needs an ice cream freezer with a few party supplies on shelves for one stop shopping.. There needs to be cookies, pies, cakes, etc all for immediate sell..
What was your vision for this location because it seems to have failed miserably.. It’s tacky with all the writing on the windows in a desperate attempt to draw customers in.. If this store has any chance of survival it needs someone with the freedom to create cakes, the ability to remodel inside and advertise, If interested let me know..
Sorry, but we only have one location on Shelbyville Road. The Valley Station location you mentioned is not our store.
There are 2 actually in this end of town… One on Dixie Highway and the Valley Station store… These have the Heitzman’s name on them. Are they franchises? If so, they are giving your bakery a very bad look…The one on Valley Station Road is just horrible. Ashame really because it could be so much more than what it is.. It was a major disappointment the one time I visited which was right before Christmas.. This should have been the busiest time of year… It was very sad…
